Abstract: Ignition sequence of hybrid rocket motors are usually performed through pyrotechnic charges or catalytic systems. Typically, such systems have the disadvantage of promoting a single ignition. In this context, the present work aims to develop and test the alternative concept: a system of ignition through a torch, using as propellants Methane (CH4) and Oxygen (O2) or Nitrous Oxide (N2O). The architecture of this system has as main advantage the possibility of multiple ignitions and use of the main oxidizer of the engine for the ignition system. During the execution of the project the system requirements were analyzed and the project development process was designed taking into account the flow calculations and the design of the mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, as well as the thermal analysis.

In the next step, the production and test planning were carried out, showing the minimum requirements for the development of the project, the expectations, the results and the benefits of the operational ignition torch system, for hybrid propellant rocket engine research. The creation of the ignition torch system is a technological key to reliable operation of the rocket engine. This work is based on previous analyzes carried out by the Chemical Propulsion Laboratory of the University of Brasilia.
